Robbie Strauss is an American Composer and Flutist. As a Composer, his style both embraces drama and simplicity in contrast with one another. His work has been performed internationally, having recently won the 2024 Joseph-Dorfman Composition Contest with his piece "All of the Voices" for mixed chamber ensemble. He will set this for Symphonic Wind Ensemble in the coming months. In the fall, he will be attending the Peabody Conservatory to pursue a Master's in Composition, studying with Felipe Lara.
Robbie is graduating from UDel in May 2025 with his Bachelor's in Flute Performance and Music Composition. There he studied with Eileen Grycky on flute and Yoshiaki Onishi, Rachael Smith, and Jennifer Barker for composition. There in 2023 he won the UD Concerto Competition, performing Griffes' Poem for Flute and Orchestra with the UD Wind Ensemble. As a flutist, Robbie excels with a big singing tone and effortless technique.
