I'll be returning to Ochsenhausen, Germany to study with Ofer Ben-Amots and Jan Jirasek, and to be a member of the 2025 Joseph Dorfman Composition Competition Jury.
In the fall of 2025, I will be attending the Peabody Institute at JHU for my Masters in Composition. Studying under Felipe Lara, I will be really increasing my compositional output. I look forward to the music and connections I will make there, as well as getting to know the Baltimore new music scene!!
My Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano arose on a night I learned my sister was in the hospital. I did not know what to do with myself so I took to my computer to write the Clarinet piece my then roommate (Clarinetist Michael Fascetta) mentioned he might ask me to write. Fortunately, he did ask me, and the resulting piece has been by far my most performed.

William Wordsworth's "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" is a poem which truly captures the essence of bittersweet. The poem describes a time he took an adventure with his sister, passing through nature before coming across a valley seemingly filled with daffodils. But, within the vivid imagery there are some important lines which reflect a keen sense of loneliness, as if the author is reminiscing and thinking about once what was. The Orchestration takes the listener to this contemplative place, stepping back to reflect on all of our daffodils that were so special to us.

Franz Doppler performed in a flute duo from a young age with his brother Carl, who had flutes that went in opposite directions. While Abby and I do not have the flare of opposite pointing flutes, we will still do our best to do this romantic (in style) piece some justice. The Andante features the two flutes soaring with long melodic lines, with the parts often overlapping to create a sonic sensation only truly audible by doing it live. The influence of his opera writing can definitely be heard in the nature of the two flute’s calls and responses. The Rondo features everything you would expect out of Doppler. Flashy arpeggios, catchy melodies, and a folk-y groove that is the perfect way to end my final recital at UD.
